Personal Injury
Mattias Kiwanuka's brother, Benedict, is in critical condition after being involved in a motorcycle accident last Friday in Indianapolis.
The brothers were spotted speeding down a street in Indianapolis at approx 2 in the morning when Benedict's bike was hit by a car exiting a car park.
Benedict was rushed to the Methodist Hospital with multiple injuries, in particular a severe arm injury. The driver of the car was not badly hurt but still brought to the hospital. Mattias spilled from his bike but was not injured.
Lt. Jeff Duhamell said that no one has been identified as the liable party just yet but that the investigation is still ongoing and that, while they don't believe alcohol was a factor in the accident, they must carry out blood tests on all involved in the accident.
Many NFL teams have it written in to players contracts that they cannot take part in other activities which may put their players in harmful or risky situations activities. It is uncertain whether such a term was written in to Mattias's contract but since he wasn't hurt badly, it's unlucky the Giants will recieve financial compensation.
This is not the first high profile motorcycle accident involving an NFL player as, in 2005 the Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger broke his jaw and nose in an accident and in 2006 Kellen Winslow Jr., of the Cleveland Browns, tore his ACL in a motorcycle accident.
We wish Benedict a speedy recovery.
