A group of individuals is taking legal action against a petting zoo in Surrey, U.K and looking for personal injury compensation after they contracted the e coli disease after visiting the zoo.
The petting zoo, Godstone Farm, was at the center of an e coli outbreak last September and 93 individuals, adults and children, were infected by the disease.
It was the 0157 strain of the disease that infected the individuals, which can be potentially fatal and cause long term health issues.
A private investigation by George Griffin, a Professor of infectious diseases at The University of London, is showing that had Health Protection Agency and local health inspectors acted quicker and in a more organized and responsible manner, the outbreak wouldn't have infected as many people. The report also claims that the zoo was negligent and failed to do enough to stop visitors coming to the petting zoo during the outbreak.
The personal injury case being taken against Godstone farm is a group legal action being taken on behalf of 28 children who were infected with the disease and suffered kidney failure and renal damage.
In their personal injury case, they are claiming, just as Mr.Griffins report did, that the zoo was negligent and that the infections could have been prevented had the proper care been taken. If their claim is successful, the group will be entitled to personal injury compensation from Godstone's Farm.
